David McDonald was born in North West Iowa on a farm where his parents used to live. David went to the Iowa State University where he completed his undergraduate in animal science in 1987. David McDonald received the Outstanding Senior Award of Wallace E. Barron from the same university.

After completing his undergraduate, he started his career at the Chicago based OSI Industries where he worked his way to become the CEO and the president of the company. As McDonald grew in his career, he became interested in using the Iowa State resources to change the community, and this led him to take part in the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative. In 2011, he also planned for students to visit the OSI facilities that are located in China, which led to one of the students to be employed in the plant. Additionally, with all the position he holds in different companies, David has been the Independent Director of the Marfrig Global Foods since the year 2008.

David McDonald is a generous supporter of his fraternity which is Alpha Gamma Rho which he supports through scholarship funding. McDonald stepped in to support his fraternity after a building fund-raiser was set up for the Iowa State AGR house. McDonald also played an important role in providing a name for the Martin J. Walter – Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity Arena located in the new Jeff & Deb Hansen Agriculture- Student Learning Center.

David McDonald was also involved in many ways with the Iowa State. McDonald serves as the chairman of the BOD (Board of Directors) of the American Meat Institute and also spends some time at the St. Micheal Parish that is located in Wheaton, III. McDonald was also awarded the Young Alumni Award for the ISU Alumni Association in 2004. this made him build a much solid relationship with the members of the alumni association. McDonald currently resides in Warrenville, III., with his wife Malinda and their six children. Two of their oldest kids attend the Iowa State while the rest are still in high school. David McDonald is pro-Cyclone and it is a great example of how special the Iowa state is. David is committed as a lifelong supporter of the Iowa university which will benefit the students in the coming years.
